Mod Installation Tutorial for MAC and PC

Windows Personal Computer (PC) Tutorial:
  1. Open up the search bar for applications.
  2. Type run into the search bar and open it. This will cause a pop up menu labeled run to appear.
  3. There will be a search box within the run application. Search appdata to locate a file labeled roaming.
  4. Inside of the roaming file, there is a file labeled .minecraft.
  5. Open the .minecraft folder.
  6. Open the folder labeled bin.
  7.  Go to the file labeled minecraft.jar.
  8. Open the minecraft.jar with a program named WinRar.
  9. Insert any .class files needed and close the minecraft.jar. Make sure to save any changes if asked.
Notes: You do not have to use installers before modifying the minecraft.jar unlike if you were on a MAC. WinRar is however required to modify the minecraft.jar.
(MAC) Tutorial:
  1. Open up your finder application.
  2. In the menu that appears full of files, locate the one named Library.
  3. Locate the file named Application-Support. It is usually near the top of the contents inside of the folder labeled Library.
  4. Locate the folder named minecraft.
  5. Once inside of the minecraft folder, open the folder labeled bin. This folder contains the minecraft.jar
  6. Slowly double click the minecraft.jar so you are able to rename it.
  7. Rename the folder minecraft.jar.zip. It will ask you if you want to use .jar or .zip. Select .zip to save your changes to the folder’s name.
  8. Open the now newly created folder named minecraft.jar.zip which will give you a new folder named minecraft.jar. This will now act as your minecraft.jar
  9. You are now able to drag any .class files needed into the jar to play the mod you wish.
Notes: If you are going to use any mod installers such as MCPatcher and you are also going to manually install some mods, make sure to use the patchers first. If you do not, the patchers will not recognize the folder as a true .jar and you will be forced to force update your minecraft from the installed minecraft application to generate a new .jar.
Other Notes: I believe that you may also just search %appdata% to locate the roaming file on a PC instead of going to run first. This may not be correct and it would be nice if someone could inform me because I have been forced to use a MAC because my PC is broken.

How to Install Minecraft Mods for Windows

BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL MODS, BACKUP YOUR SAVES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Step 1: First, you have to download a Minecraft Mod of your choice. You can use google to find mods, or you can go to 9Minecraft Mods
Step 2: Now, you have to open your minecraft.jar file. This can be found here: C:\Users\(insert computer name here)\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin. It can also be found by searching for “%appdata%” in your start menu. Once you have searched for “%appdata%,” you have to follow the same path as stated above.

Step 3: Open your minecraft.jar with Winrar by simply dragging the .jar into Winrar.

Step 4: Open the .zip/.rar/folder of your mod and drag and drop the contents into the minecraft.jar. Sometimes some contents must be entered in different places besides just the main minecraft.jar directory. Before this step, you should check the original post of the mod to know where to put the appropriate files. An example of this sort of mod is the Mo’ Creates Mod by Dr Zhark.

Step 5: Delete the META-INF folder in the minecraft.jar. Close minecraft.jar.

Step 6: Open Minecraft and play!
If your mod doesn’t work properly or you get a black screen at the Minecraft startup:
Step 1: Delete your minecraft.jar found here “C:\Users\(insert computer name here)\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin”.

Step 2: Open Minecraft, let it auto-update so your .jar can be restord.
Step 3: Attempt to re-install mod (If you want).
